Information for potential mentors

 

Am I eligible to be a mentor?

Mentors are welcome from private, public, not-for-profit and voluntary organisations. Ideally you will have 10 or more years experience within your sector.

 

Who would I be mentoring?

Mentees will be recent professionals with 1-5 years experience within the environmental tecnologies and sustainable communities sector.  We will do our best to ensure you are paired with a mentee located in the vicinity of your place of work.  The mentee need not be from your own organisation.

 The programme outline

We collect application forms all through the year however spring is the main time for recruiting. During this time we would ask you to complete our online form, which gives us details of your current role and past experience within the sector.

 

  • April - May

Using this information, we then draw up a short list of potential mentees based on the criteria you suggest, which may be the type of course the students are studying or the type of career they have expressed an interest in.

 

  • June

Both the mentor and mentee are invited to attend an induction session on the 20th June. This meeting is designed to explain the process of mentoring and allow discussion of any expectations or concerns. At the completion of the induction you will be formally introduced to your mentor.

 

  • June - September 

During this period you should meet with your mentee a minimum of four times which can be arranged at a time and place convenient to both parties.

 

What is my commitment?

 

This partnership is flexible and therefore meetings and methods of contact are to be agreed in the initial induction meeting. From this point forward the meetings are to be arranged at a time and place convenient for both parties. The mentee will take the lead in arranging these meetings and determining the topics they wish to discuss at each meeting.
